General Description:
The Pharmacy Department is currently recruiting for a Pharmacy Technician. Rotating shifts,holidays will be required.

The Christiana and Wilmington Hospital Pharmacies operate 24 hours a day.

As a Pharmacy Technician you will assist Pharmacists providing pharmaceutical care to patients. You will review physician orders and enter that information into the computer system. You will fill patient medication bins, update carts by including new pharmaceutical orders, making dosage or schedule changes, removing any discontinued medication. You will make medication credit and charge adjustments via the computer system, ensuring any extra medication is returned to stock. You will deliver carts to nursing units at scheduled times and reorder medications in short supply to restock the pharmacy. In addition to these duties, you will answer telephones and greet personnel coming into the pharmacy, answering any questions they may have.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of one year of recent pharmacy technician experience required. Current CPhT Certification is required. Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Knowledge of generic and trade names of formulary drugs, and the skills to type and perform basic math calculations is essential to this position. Strength and endurance is necessary to push the medicine carts back and forth to nursing stations.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager with serving customers and maintaining the Pharmacy department. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

1. Perform all functions and duties of a Pharmacy Service Representative to ensure prompt service in the Pharmacy Department.
2. Perform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation & entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution.
3. Accept customer and prescription information required to process new and refill prescriptions, including refill authorization from doctor offices where permitted by state law.
4. Retrieve the appropriate medication from inventory where permitted by state law.
5. Create prescription labels and put them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
6. Place medication into prescription containers where permitted by state law.
7. Complete paperwork related to filling prescriptions and input customer and prescription data into the computer system where permitted by law.
8. Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order.
9. Assist in inventory management processes including: order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.
10. Administer Rite Aid programs including: FlavoRx, Living More, etc.
11. Reconstitute oral liquids where permitted by state law.

Education:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus 600 practical hours working in retail and/or pharmacy operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires the following licenses and/or certifications:
• Pharmacy Technician certification where required by state law.
• Rite Aid Technician Training Program certification in all modules, job   class/codes up to and including “Pharmacy Technician”.
• Successful achievement of Rite Aid’s Pharmacy Technician Certification.

Essential Functions:

1. Customer Service
• Greet each customer using the eye’s, hi’s and help, assist with their questions and issues on the phone and in person both in and out of the pharmacy areas, obtain information for new prescriptions, maintain customer/patient confidentiality

2. Operations
• Operate a cash register including: cash, checks, and charge transactions; bagging merchandise, insurance signature logs and offer/refer questions to Pharmacist
• Retrieve, count and measure drugs (except CIIS), cap and uncap vials and bottles
• Retrieve and file pharmacy prescriptions in the appropriate files and assist Pharmacist with checking in and pricing drug orders (except CIIS)
• Maintain inventory levels, pull outdated/recalled merchandise
• Refer all doctor’s calls and customer’s medical questions to Pharmacist
• Assist the Pharmacist with all third party transactions including the completion of any paperwork

Marginal Functions:
• Assist front store personnel when needed
• Maintain the Pharmacy Department: fill Pharmacy supplies, vacuum dust/face; wipe counter tops; clean sink and settee area; straighten administration area; clean baker units; empty trash
• Complete Pharmacy paperwork, maintain daily/weekly reports

Technicians are also responsible for the preparation of IV admixtures using aseptic technique.  Responsible for refilling pyxis machines and maintaining clean and organized machines.  Keeps the inpatient pharmacy area stocked with medications.  Removes expired medications and places in the appropriate expired storage area in the storeroom.  Responsible for ordering medications when inventory is low.  Trains new employees as necessary and works as a team player.

•Types prescription information to produce labels.
•Labels products appropriately, including cautionary or auxiliary labels.

•Must be available to work evenings and rotating weekends.
